The Employment Appeal Tribunal (EAT) deals with appeals from decisions of Employment Tribunals in England, Wales and Scotland. It is administered by HMCTS.
The EAT’s main official pages are on gov.uk, but other official information about the EAT is spread around a variety of locations online, which are mostly not inter-linked.
This is an unofficial page which collects links to official online information together in one place, and adds a few links to unofficial sources of information:
If you need more information or assistance, please contact the EAT.

The key source of information if you want to appeal is the I Want to Appeal leaflet.
This is the official Notice of Appeal form.
Information about the fees which apply to appeals in the EAT may be found in the Employment Appeal Tribunal Fees leaflet.
Information about the EAT’s processes and what it expects of parties is contained in the Practice Direction.
The legislative framework within which the EAT operates is the EAT Rules.
There are also provisions relating to the EAT in Part 2 of the Employment Tribunals Act 1996.
In 2005 the then President, The Honourable Mr Justice Burton, issued a Practice Statement about the requirement to lodge appeals complete and in time.
Leaflets and forms for the EAT can be found in the HMCTS Formfinder (in the "Available Types" field select "Employment Appeal Tribunal" and press the Search button to see all the EAT leaflets and forms).
At the time of writing the following are available:
Transcribed judgments are publicly available on the EAT website - there is a search page and a page of recent judgments.
EAT judgments are also available on the British and Irish Legal Information Institute (BAILII) site. This is not an official HMCTS site, but it has superior search facilities, in particular the ability to search the content of judgments.
A list of the hearings which will take place at the EAT the following week is uploaded at noon every Friday to the cause list page. The list is updated during the week if necessary.
Parties intending to refer to authorities in their submissions at a hearing need not lodge copies of authorities which are on the list of Familiar Authorities
The HMCTS Courtfinder contains information about the London EAT office and the Edinburgh EAT office.
On the Courts and Tribunals Judiciary site there is a page with brief information about the EAT and a page with a list of the EAT’s resident judges.
Information about the Employment Tribunals may be found on the gov.uk website.
There is information about how to appeal to the EAT in the Employment Tribunal leaflet The Judgment.
The following sources of information are not official, so you rely on them at you own risk:
The Preparation and Conduct of Employment Appeals - A Practitioner's Guide by Nick Smith of Guildhall Chambers. This guide to litigating in the EAT dates from August 2012 (so there is no mention of fees) but much of the advice is timeless and universal - for example “Sedley J’s Laws of Documents”!
The purpose of this page is to provide links to information which will assist those litigating in the EAT. If you have any suggestions for other sources of useful information, or any other comments about this site, please send us an email.
